Keeping It Compliant on Social Media

Social media is a double-edged sword.

You can get yourself a boatload of leads.

Or you can get yourself and your company in a whole lot of trouble.

And, by the way, nothing is “secret” on social media.  If you private message or chat, or if you delete comments, someone may take a screen shot and share it with the world (and the regulators).

Tammy Butler, MortgageCurrentcy.com, shared some of the “don’ts,” not only to stay compliant, but to ensure that you are creating a stellar reputation—online.

  • Stay away from “rant” groups
  • No politics
  • No mention of religion (Fair lending issue)
  • No cursing/swearing
  • If you repost someone’s content, mention the source of the content
  • Check all sources before reposting (could be fake news)

And if you find that the group you are a member of starts dissing people and ranting—leave the group.

If you find that a social media friend is not consistent with your values—unfriend them.

It’s okay to stand up for what you believe in—but keep it professional.
